Vs North London League 21st May 2009

A great game with the Midd winning off the last ball.  Victory was set up by a mature innings from Captain Miles (76 which included two sweetly struck 6s).  With 2 needed off the last ball, the NL bowler pitched it short and Luke imperiously pulled the ball for 4 into the Park Road gardens.

NL totalled 115 of which 50 came from wides and no balls!  We basically gave NL a 50 run start.  Their extras total was just 6!  Some hard work and discipline needed from our bowlers please – forget the experimental stuff boys and get the basics right.  Least generous were Percy (2 for 12 off 3) and Ricky on his debut (2 for 17 off 3).’

Vs Islington League 11th May 2009

Back to winning ways against a weak Islington team on a freezing evening at Calthorpe.  Splendid knocks from Joe C (80 not out) and Nicky (53 not out) saw the Midd to 178 off 18 overs.

Islington (with only 9) were never likely to get close and were bowled out in the 18th over for 86.  Wickets were shared between Joe B, Harry, Miles and Joe C.  Rather alarmingly 12 wides and 4 no balls were bowled contributing 32 to Islington’s total.

Vs Holt Whites Cup 10th May 2009

North Midd minus their regular Captain Miles crashed out of the Cup on a gloriously sunny morning in Enfield.  Batting first on an artificial pitch the Midd managed 125 off 20 overs.  Some fine shots were played and the running between the wickets was aggressive and a credit to Mr Lake’s winter coaching.  ET top scored with a stylish 32 well supported by Joe C (16), Nicky L-W (14), Luke (12), James (11).  Unfortunately the innings lost momentum with only a handful of runs coming off the last 5 overs.  This proved costly.

Holt Whites batted with aggression and power throughout helped by some generous bowling and field settings.  They reached the required total in the 18th over with 7 wickets in hand to end the Midd’s Cup hopes for this year.

Vs Brondesbury League 6th May 2009

North Midd were beaten by a classy side.  Batting first the Midd posted 95  (Miles 24, Luke 15 and James 13).  This was no where near enough against some fine stroke players.  Bron reached their target in 15 overs with 8 wickets in hand.  Luke took the 2 wickets to fall.

Vs Hampstead A's League 30th April 2009

‘NMCC Under 11s beat Hampstead A’s by 8 runs in an exciting game at the Midd on the 30th April.

The Midd’s batters ,with the exception of Miles (36), played and missed far too often.  With the help of 30 extras they set a target of 101 off 20 overs.  Much work on batting technique required!

Hampstead were up with the required rate until an excellent run out by Max Bonic removed their big hitting batter.  After that some decent bowling and fielding pushed up the asking rate.  Hampstead ended up  needing 11 off the last over which proved too much.  Pick of the bowlers were Luke Hollman with 2 for 8 off 3, Miles 2 for 13 off 4 and Percy 1 for 4 off 2 but the turning point was that run out.  26 extras were given away which is far too many.’
