Colts Overview 2012

Recent Highlights/2012 Overview

Aims and objectives of the Colts’ Section

  • To give as many Colts as possible the opportunity to learn to play cricket in a friendly, safe environment and to have fun doing so
  • To develop our stronger Colts, ensure they have chances to play competitive cricket and to play for the Club’s Senior Teams as they grow older
  • To foster a family friendly environment with a ‘One Club’ feel and spirit so that all Colts, Senior Players, Parents and others involved in NMCC activities feel part of the same Club

How are we doing – numbers of Colts/fixtures/Coaches?

  • Registered Colts’ members (Girls and Boys) currently exceed 250 with a waiting list.  High proportion of local members and good mix from private and state schools.
  • Run sections from Under 7s to U17s and an Under 5s and 6s Pre-Colts Group.
  • Started up a Girls’ section in 2010 which expanded to around 30 in 2011/12.  We are entering a team in the Girls’ League for the first time in 2012.
  • Fixtures for 2012 (league, cup and friendlies) now on Website, those already arranged exceed 150.
  • Around 40 coaches/managers currently active.  Most coaches have either ECB level I or II qualification with at least 2 who have progressed to the ECB Club Coach programme.

    North Midd Academy

In January 2010 North Midd launched its own Academy for Colts of Under 14 and older.

In January 2011 we extended the Academy to include a separate section for Colts aged from Under 11  to and including Under 13.

Sessions for both Academies are continuing indoors between January and March 2012.  They will switch to outdoors in April.

More background on the Academy Objectives:

    • to improve the all round skills of our strongest Colts and encourage them to set standards/become ambassadors in their respective age groups - all Academy members will continue to be involved in their age group coaching and matches.
    • to encourage greater integration between our Colts and Senior Sections by involving Senior players in coaching and mentoring Academy Members.

Academy Director – the 2012 indoor sessions are being run by Sanjay Patel a highly qualified Coach who is also head of cricket at Highgate School.

Selection of Academy Members  -  by invitation based on nominations from the Age Group managers of the Colts most likely to benefit from being part of the Academy having regard to a number of criteria including ability, maturity, commitment and potential.

Finance - Self financed by subs from Academy members.
