Dear All,
A really exciting game for the As on Saturday, and three games for the Bs, all close and including one win against Hornsey B.
Joe (Cracknell) captained the As in the match v. Hornsey A. We had lost to Primrose Hill A in our first match, but PH had also lost one game. Hornsey A were unbeaten – until PH beat them in the first game on Saturday, so North Midd were set up for a ‘top of the table clash’.
Joe won the toss and had no hesitation in putting Hornsey in to bat. North Midd were strengthened with Ethan opening the bowling with Nick. Hornsey stars, Jack and Tom, went about their business methodically without showing much sign of adding to wall shots with runs between the wickets; Luke bamboozled for a while and Will bowled steadily, restricting scoring shots. The openers retired; No.3 stayed around for 15* for the rest of the innings. Archie and Oli bowled good overs, restricting Hornsey to 99 by the end of the 11th over. Job well done by fielders and bowlers – if there wasn’t a last-over flurry of runs. Ethan bowled over 12 – he and the team kept that final over to only 6 runs as four wickets fell; two straight bowled and two runouts (by Will and Luke).
Into bat chasing a modest 105 – but it wasn’t going to be easy against a good, disciplined bowling lineup that had beaten North Midd on the last ball in the Cup and won the Gubby Allen last summer.
Joe and Nick opened; Nick was run out early on, while Joe scored 13 before falling lbw. Ethan and Archie found scoring difficult; Ethan was caught for 9 while Archie stayed there longer for 10 as the run rate slowed. Enter Luke, who turned the innings round, showing his intent with two sixes, including a delightful lofted straight drive over the bowler’s head.
Oli went for a duck, and Luke retired on 32*. With Percy and Will at the crease, North Midd needed 11 to win from the last over, bowled by Hornsey’s opener, Jack: the pressure was relieved by Percy hitting a three, taking a run for two more, plus an overthrow which allowed the batsmen to run again. 8 scored (umpire miscounted 7). So with a couple of extras, level scores and still three balls to go, Percy hit five and North Midd ran out winners.
Great all round performance – really good to see the improvements in every department as everyone upped their game and showed what they can do. I have a feeling it will be a very good summer for the Under Elevens. Man of the Match was Luke for his bowling (forget over 3!), a run out and match-winning innings, though Ethan’s final over put him up there, with Percy’s 12* to take North Midd past the Hornsey total – particularly after initially struggling to score – and Archie’s excellent straight over for just 5 runs at a crucial time. Congratulations to the whole squad – including Ivan and Alex who came as reserves to support the team – and parents who gave a real atmosphere to the game.
North Midd Bs have also been making progress during the winter and have proved a match for most teams in the league. Against Hornsey B, Adam and Joe (Bonic) opened, and although not racing along, scored steadily – Adam run out for 21 and Joe retiring on 32*. After that, Max, Charlie, Hugh, Callum and James all chipped in with single-figure scores to reach 101 for 4. And Hornsey B were not able to make it a real run chase – despite 30 extras – ending on 81 for 5, with catches for Callum, Charlie, Hugh and Adam, two run outs and 2 wickets for Callum, one each for Max and Hugh. An excellent win.
The Bs were buoyed by the win as they went into the next game v. Stoke Newington, keeping the opposition to 105 for 3 – Adam, Charlie and Max taking the wickets. In the run chase, the Bs kept close to the target most of the way through as Joe scored 20, Max 15, Hugh 11 and Callum 18. We needed 13 off the last over, but unfortunately only 2 were scored leaving North Midd 10 short, on 95. Close!
The final match was against Hornsey A – and the Bs kept them to 112 for 6 – a great performance (except for the 37 extras) – Hugh, Ronnie, Joe and Adam bowling particularly well. In reply, the Bs lost two quick wickets (Joe and Max both for 0) which set the team back on its heels and despite 15 from Adam, 10 from Callum and 11 from Ronnie the run total reached only 79. But it showed that the Bs can compete with the best teams on an equal footing. Great performances all round.
So….. unless something goes badly wrong for Primrose Hill A in their last two matches it looks as though they will end up on equal points with North Midd A – but PH will win the league on the ‘head to head’ result. Just like last year, but then we beat PH, so fair enough.
Last games for both North Midd squads are on February 6th v.North London.
Best wishes and thanks to all players, reserves and parents.
Brian Lake, Doug Teesdale, James Dean, Richard Verity, Mike Harris, Peter Hollman, Oliver Fryer.

February 27th 2010
North Middlesex U13s (90-2) beat Wilf Slack (87-5) by six wickets
North Middlesex U13s (128-3) beat Stoke Newington (111-5) by 17 runs
Two victories for the U13s to finish off their 2009-10 campaign and leave them with a fine record of seven wins and one defeat and equal top of the Central Division. Unfortunately, our one defeat came against Winchmore Hill who also finished seven and one and that means they go through (on the head-to-head rule) and we don't. Which is a shame as we have a great set of boys with excellent team spirit as well.
The first game against a young Wilf Slack side saw us in full 'we've not played indoor cricket for a while have we?' performance. We gave away 40 extras, including 30 wides, which was almost half the opposition's total, only one of their players making it into double figures. Sean was the pick of the bowlers with 3-19 and there were wickets too for Nicky and Douglas. Wilf Slack's opening bowlers were impressive, removing Miles in the first over and keeping it tight. But Matthew (31*) upped the pace with his fifth undefeated innings of the winter - terrific stuff. Noah shipped in with 15 before being run out and Nicky hit the winning runs to end unbeaten on 30 in a good knock.
The second game against Stoke Newington saw both sides produce some terrific cricket. We won the toss and decided to bat. Miles and Jimmy made steady progress against an accurate bowling attack but it was Sean with 25 who started to accelerate things. Then Fergus (32*) and Douglas (24*) saw us through to the end, taking 19 very valuable runs as it turned out off the final over. Stokie's reply was sensible and steady, with a variety of twos and threes being taken. All the same they were always slightly behind the required run rate and our bowling and fielding (especially Jimmy and Nicky) was top-notch. Matthew took one wicket but others were hard to come by. 25 runs were needed off the final over from Fergus but with good catches from Noah and Miles, that was never likely and we won reasonably comfortably by 17 runs.
Thanks again to Paul for umpiring and well done to all the boys who took part, both for their efforts and also for their behaviour while waiting for matches to start.

North Middlesex U13 indoor league results - January 23rd 2010
North Middlesex (114-5) BEAT Hornsey (113-6) by three wickets
North Middlesex ((145-4) BEAT North London (74 all out) by 71 runs
North Middlesex (118-1) BEAT Primrose Hill Cougars (115-3) by seven wickets
Three more wins for our squad, bringing our record to five and one with two to play. Unfortunately our earlier narrow loss to Winchmore Hill means we can't beat them to the league championship (they'd win out on the head-to-head result should we finish level) but we're determined to finish equal top.
Star man of the day was Matthew Cracknell who piled up 97 runs in his three innings, each of them undefeated. He also managed a hat-trick against North London in a bizarre over which also yielded eight wides. Sean Irvin also deserves great credit for his accurate bowling and sensible batting. He scored 78 runs including a priceless 28 not out in our first game against Hornsey to see us through when we'd started to wobble a bit. Miles Illingworth chipped in with an unbeaten 30 during our steady pursuit of Primrose Hill's total in our last game. And Fergus Mason batted well for a total of 34, two of them unbeaten, in three innings.
Catches helped to win us the matches - thirteen of them in total. Matt Starr's sharp caught and bowled against North London was probably the pick of them, one of four wickets he took in the match. Amit Chadha held four catches at slip with Matthew and Jimmy Cannon taking three each. Joe West chipped in with three wickets at a crucial time of the final game against Primrose Hill. While he wasn't among the runs, Douglas captained sensibly and pro-actively, notably with changes to the field which helped to secure key wickets.
Thanks to Paul Dossett for helping umpire throughout the afternoon and to the boys (and their parents) for ensuring good behaviour between the matches.

North Middlesex CC Under 15 As
Indoor Cricket 2009/10
North Middlesex 15As have completed an undefeaten run in the East/Central Area of Middlesex. The team gradually improved with each match, which was just as well as the competition went down to the last three matches, involving ourselves, North London & London Maccabi Vale. There were quite convincing wins along the way against Wilf Slack, Cockfosters, Barnet, Hornsey & the NMCC Bs but it hotted up a bit when we met our old friends North London.
NLCC chose to bat first & Kyle & Charlie kept them quiet for the first 2 overs, but when Alistair Napier came on to bowl it all happened. A cunning ploy between Ali & Arthur too bowl wide down the leg side to their County player, Frankie Fraser worked beautifully & he was stumped for just 2. Milo came in and smashed a 4 but Zulfy took a brilliant catch sliding across the back wall to deny him any more runs. 17/2 off 3 overs & then Zulf bowled Dan Rosson with a peach through the gate, Teddy Greally & Joe Higgins put on a good partnership until Ted was retired. 74 to win.
Zulf & Charlie made slow but steady progress until Zulf was caught & bowled for 19. Charlie batted beautifully and was retired at 30 & Joe & Arthur saw us home with 1.3 overs to spare.
LMV had also beaten NLCC before our match, but had also lost a match along the way. If they were to beat us though, they would go through having beaten NLCC & us.
LMV chose to bat. Once again Kyle was at his restrictive best, going for 5 runs in his first over, but then bowling a wicket maiden!! Unheard of, unless you are Nick Friend. Only 9 runs coming off Kyles 4 overs bowled on the day. Charlie, Alistair, Joe & Zulf also kept LMV quiet, but they kept going for the runs & this tactic resulted in 2 run outs & Joe took a brilliant catch off Kyle. 82 to win.
Zulf & Charlie went about this chase with a bit more venom & decided to do a spot of running themselves. With better results. Charlie once again batting beautifully to be retired on 35, Alistair came in & hit a lovely flat 6 before being run out in bizarre circumstances after the “ceiling furniture” came in to play. Zulf & Joe took us past their total in the 8th over for a comfy win.
Both matches were a great exhibition of a TEAM at work. Everyone contributed, Arthurs keeping was really good, Alistair saved a load of runs off the cover wall, Joe fielded well & scored runs. Kyle, Zulf & Charlie all contributed greatly.

| Enter the sports hall at 3pm and set up quickly - bring carpet tape, stumps and bails
|
|
|
| Direction of play must be towards the far end of the hall (ie away from the tied up indoor nets)
|
|
|
| Any Clubs defaulting on a fixture will have to pay their opponents match fee of £24
|
|
|
| Only use the yellow Kookaburra PUC indoor ball issued by Bob Pedersen and note each team is to bowl with their own ball
|
|
| Remember to e-mail all results after your games to Lakshmi l.hewavisenti@btinternet.com
|
|
|
| Please READ Indoor League rules in the 2009 MCA handbook, pages 54 & 55 BEFORE you attend the matches
