New signing Rob Fahrenheim led a much-improved batting display from North Middlesex – but the Crouch End outfit suffered their second successive defeat in the Premier Division of the Middlesex County Cricket League.

Captain Tom Nicoll elected to bat and openers Mitch Murray (20) and Adam Holmes (39) got the hosts off to a strong start, while No3 Fahrenheim notched 96 off 114 balls, suffering an injury and being dismissed just before reaching a century.

With Tom Nicoll (27), Joe Hewton (15) and Will Nicoll (19 not out) adding runs further down the order, North Midd – who had fallen short of 150 in both of their first two matches – posted 241-6 from 50 overs.

Brand (3-36) then had a double-wicket maiden over as Teddington struggled to 34-4 in reply – but Ben Williams struck 113 with support from Tom Elliott (33) to take his side to 221-8.

When he was caught off Ed Bird (3-71), the visitors still needed 21 runs from four overs – but Jack Sever (13no) and David Keightley (3) got them over the line with nine balls left.

Tom Nicoll said: “Rob played the innings of the season so far for us. It was a great pity that he injured himself and was out soon after, as with five overs to go he looked set to add another 30-odd. Our batting was a vast improvement on last week at Eastcote.

“Nick Brand again bowled very well with the new ball, and the ever-reliable Joel Hughes gave absolutely nothing away at the other end.

“With Teddington 221-9 it was game on, but ill discipline with the ball in the last few overs – partly caused by a wet ball – saw Teddington just get home in the end.

“This was a high-standard game which could have gone either way. We are getting ourselves in good positions but need to be sharper in the crucial moments.”
