Hollman and Flowers star in great team effort

"Great to win a match of this quality with 1 current Junior and 6 ex Juniors in the side
- Dave Robson
A final between Ealing, current leaders of the Premier League, and the Midd sitting in third place promised to be a tense and high-quality affair and so it proved.
Ealing won the toss and chose to bowl. The Midd started well with the Nicoll Brothers finding the boundary regularly and putting on 42 for the first wicket in quick time (Tom 24 off 16; Will 17 also off 16). Enter Evan Flowers (52 off 34) and a flurry of shots, the likes of which most players don’t play in a lifetime. These included a cover drive to the longest boundary which was still on the way up when it hit the protective netting! Useful contributions from Alex Hill (15 off 14) and ,at the death, from Oli Tikare (24 not out off 18) saw the Midd post a total of 157 for 7 off their 20 overs. Good but was it enough?
In reply Ealing were always behind the required run rate but they had wickets in hand. After 10 overs they were on 66 for 3 with Middlesex player Robbie White looking dangerous. A partnership of 28 between him and Arthur Godsal, another Middlesex player, threatened to take the game away. Captain Tommy then had White coolly caught at long on by Matt Cracknell – 94 for 4 off 13.4. Godsal followed, brilliantly stumped by Hilly off Brand - 101 for 5. Next a match turning run out from the cover boundary by Luke Hollman – 120 for 6. Man of the Match Hollman then returned to bowl his last 2 overs and snared more victims. One a brilliant mid-air twisting catch from Flowers; the next caught behind by Hilly. Ealing were still fighting and some determined hitting from the skipper Martin left his side needing 18 off the last over to be bowled by Man of the Match Hollman. 6 off the first ball but Hollman held his nerve and dismissed the dangerous Martin – stumped Hilly. Valiant Ealing finished on 148 for 9. So a win for the Midd by 9 runs. Hollman finished with 4 for 20 with T Nicoll, J Hughes, E Bird and N Brand taking a wicket each.
Great team effort. We now move into the National rounds and will be playing other South-East Champions in play offs in Essex probably on 30 July.
