Fine partnership between Hill and Nicoll (W) and early wickets from Hughes sets up DLS win

Amazing Cup double for the Club
- Mike Bohndiek

Inserted by Harrow St Marys on a hard and dry Richmond track, the Midd made a decent start (Holman 45, J Cracknell 20, Flowers 27) and at one point were 102 for 2. Then something of a collapse - 131 for 7 and in big trouble. Enter Alex Hill (32) and Will Nicoll (36 not out) to put on 64 for the 8th wicket. After Alex fell, Joel Hughes joined Will and helped take the total to 208 for 8 off the allotted 45 overs.

Early wickets from Hughes (3 for 22 off 6) and Bamber (1 for 12 off 6) reduced HSW to 33 for 4 after 9 overs. With black clouds and lightning looming, it was vital for the Midd to bowl the required minimum of 20 overs before the heavens opened. Switching to the leg spin of Holman and skipper Tom Nicoll, the Midd just made it bowling 20.1 overs before the rains came. The teams never made it back out so the Midd won on DLS.

Joel Hughes was made man of the match for his fine opening salvo.

A great end to the 1s Season. The Middlesex Cup sits happily alongside the Middlesex T20 Cup which the Midd won earlier in the Season.
