North Midd stay top after clinical batting display
North Midd 160/1
North Midd win by 9 wickets
A very mixed bowling and fielding display was punished by good batting from Finchley. The Finchley openers put on 54 before Nico, in a quality spell, sent the bails flying. Nico, after some recent work on his run up, finished with 4 overs one for 13 and was the pick of the bowlers against some strong batting. Will Frais chipped in with two wickets. The Finchley number three plundered the bowling to hit 44 off 32 . Late wickets from Adam Murphy (2 over 1 for 11 - good catch) and a run out helped the score remain within reach. However the boys do like to make things difficult for themselves at times this season.
For the statos amongst you the leading wicket takers this season so far are:
(Highgate game wickets have been included)
1. Will - 10
2. Raffy - 9
3. Nikhil - 9
As has become the norm this season the chase didn't intimidate the boys and a good start was important. A target of 30 off the first five was comfortably surpassed by Bishal and Tom. Our opening pair lookd very comfortable and put on 118 (13.1 overs) for the first wicket (our second 100 partnership of the season) and the target eased into view. Bishal smashed a six into the bushes and proclaimed himself the hardest hitter in the U13's. The wily spinner saw to Bish and 41 were needed off seven overs. Tom moved past his fifty with some good back foot work. Gabriel, with Bishal's brag still ringing in his ears, tried to put a hole in the nets with a bludgeoned shot over mid-off and the game was all but over.
The victory was achieved with just under three overs to spare and the loss of just the one wicket.
Leading Run Scores / Averages
1. Bish - 237 (avg - 47.4)
2. Alex - 130 (26)
3. Gabriel - 130 (212 - courtesy of 3 not outs)
4. Tom - 106 (106)
Bowling and fielding certainly need improvement but I am pleased to report attitude is being maintained at a good level.
