I'm reaching out from Alsama Project, an NGO working with young Syrian refugees in Lebanon through education and cricket. We're currently recruiting for a five-month cricket coaching internship based in Lebanon from September to January.
It's an ideal fit for those in a gap year, recent graduates, or anyone aged 18+ with a passion for cricket and a sense of adventure. Interns will coach in our vibrant hard-ball programme, working with talented boys and girls, many of whom have used cricket as a powerful tool for empowerment and growth.
To address the elephant in the room with regards to working in the Middle East, the Lebanese geo-political situation has been tense. But recent news is positive. A ceasefire has been in place for the best part of six months, and the British Foreign Office now classes Lebanon as "green" - ie. it is approved as being safe for visits. Speaking personally, I am a British national who joined Alsama in 2023 and found it to be an absolutely incredible experience, have always felt safe, and have thoroughly enjoyed living and working in Lebanon. Club great Ollie Tikare, who provided the above photograph, has also spent time with Alsama, which was founded by club legend Richard Verity.
If you, your child or a friend would like more information, please feel free to get in touch, either via email (shay.kohler@alsamaproject.com) or on WhatsApp at +447443462808.
The deadline for applications is Friday 13th June 2025. Shay will be able to send on application forms.
