The Club has learned with sadness of the death of its former 1st XI captain, Errol Lisk, just two days before his 84th birthday.
Born in Colombo and a graduate of top-flight school and college cricket, Errol emigrated to the UK in the early 1960s and, in keeping with his considerable financial acumen, worked at a high level for Barclays Bank.
He played for North Middlesex CC for over 20 years until 1986, including several seasons as 1st XI captain. He was an aggressive and entertaining middle-order batsman. Errol was an extraordinarily talented wicketkeeper who stood up to virtually anything.
From 1987, Errol played for Northampton Exiles, serving for several years as their captain and continuing to play until 2004. He served as chairman of that club from 2015 until 2017.
Errol's last visit to The Midd was when he attended our end-of-season dinner in 2019 to celebrate the First XI winning the Middlesex Premier League.
Our head coach, Paul Frost, has added these personal recollections: "Errol gave me my 1st XI debut at the age of 13 away to Flitwick Cricket Club in 1997 where I put on the highest wicket partnership with another dear friend Roger Hill.
"Over the years I leant so much from Errol and always respected how he always seemed way above his level behind the stumps and how he always made time for people. I have always been proud to have followed in his footsteps to become a 1st XI captain but sadly and with regret it will always stay with me that I never told him that.
"The last time I saw Errol was last summer in a club reunion. I knew that he was suffering from dementia. Sadly, after over 20 years of friendship he had forgotten me. We spoke of cricket and when I told him that I coached for North Middlesex, to my deep annoyance he asked me if I knew of The Rev! Honestly, his face was lit up with happiness and memories of The Midd and he gave me a number of stories and names that he had played with over the years.
"Errol was a great man and a fine cricketer who the club is proud to call one of ours. We must continue to look out for each other just like Errol as a past skipper would have done for each of us. I'd like everyone reading this to take the time to raise a toast to Errol, to all past players, current members and to the future of North Middlesex Cricket Club. And let us continue to make the most of what we have together at The Midd now and for future generations."
Our deepest sympathy at this very sad time goes to Myrtle, Coral and David and their families.
