Joel Hughes – Middlesex Premier League Player of the Year

Richard Nicoll10 Nov 2021 - 08:56

One of many highlights at the North Midd Dinner plus video record of 2021 Season

A great night was had by all at the Club’s Annual Dinner held for the first time at Muswell Hill Golf Club and attended by around 90 members and guests. A huge thank you to Nick Friend for all the hard work and imagination he put in to make the evening so special and successful.

As a backdrop to the Dinner, a video record of the 2022 Season compiled by Nick was shown. It’s 15 mins long but if you need a winter pick me up or a reminder of why we all love this Club so much, have a watch – it's likely to bring tears to your eyes. A link to the video is included above.

Highlights at the Dinner included -

> Presentation to Club Captain, Joel Hughes, of the Middlesex County Cricket League’s award for Premier League Player of the Year. This is a remarkable achievement bearing in mind that the awards is based on weekly marks from umpires and that Joel only played in 10 of the 1s 18 League games. He missed games at the beginning of the season due to injury. Although probably not fully fit on his return, he still managed to collect 44 Premier League wickets in 10 games @ 7.68 with 6 hauls of 5 wickets or more. What an extraordinary Season for Joel who continues to be the most feared and potent seam bowler in the League. Watch this tribute to Joel from Middlesex CCC legend Tim Murtagh

> Celebrations of the 4s winning their League, the Premier League Fairplay Award being won by the 1s with the highest total of all League winners, our Under 21s winning the MDL plus various individual awards serious and not so.

> Pistol Pete Croaker sending a video from Australia to congratulate the 4s on their league title. Pete skippered the 4s on their journey which started in 2007 when we entered a 4th XI in the 1987 League (since amalgamated into the County league) to the heights they have now reached. A link to that video will be uploaded soon.

> Having 3 of our Middlesex pros in attendance - Joe C was away at Uni. A classic demonstration from Joe and Luke on how not to run between the wickets was shown on video. Here is a link to it.
