NMCC are Middlesex U19 T20 champions!

Nick Friend26 Aug 2024 - 13:13

Captained by Will Frais, the under-19s came out on top at Finals Day, held at The Midd on Sunday

The Midd were dominant in a semi-final win over Brondesbury, before brushing Richmond aside in the final.

After being asked to bat first by Brondesbury in the 10am semi-final, Rory Walter top-scored with an unbeaten 51, which featured five sixes, while Frais made 39 and Jai Chandra hit 31.

A total of 177 for 6 proved ample on the 3s block, which somehow remained bone-dry through Saturday's storms. Walter, Isaac Dutson and Nico Smith then shared six wickets between them, with one each for Max Roxburgh and Linus Wainewright, as well as two runouts. Brondesbury were ultimately bowled out for 133 for a 44-run victory.

Richmond then defeated Harrow in the second semi-final, which was all the more thrilling for an enormous six driven through the window of the clubroom upstairs, nearly wiping out the 3rd XI captain and a professional cricketer in the process.

After losing the toss in the final, The Midd produced a superb bowling and fielding display to bowl out Richmond for 125 in 19.3 overs. Shayaan Calcuttawala (2 for 16), Walter (2 for 22), Smith (2 for 24) and Roxburgh (2 for 26) shared eight wickets.

The run-chase was a formality, completed in just 12.3 overs, with 37 for Chandra, 35 for Frais and 29 for Walter. Danny Francis completed the seven-wicket win with a six over the sightscreen.

A fantastic achievement for the U19s, several of whom were part of the U17 group that completed the Middlesex treble last year, and many congratulations to Adam Frais, John Francis and James Parlsow, who've all put an enormous amount of work into this team.

Thanks, too, to Joe Naughton and Oz Cohen for getting the day on despite Saturday's weather.
