North Midd win MDL; U15s runners up in County League Final

More celebrations to follow up on 4s winning their league on Saturday.

MDL Win - Great to report that North Midd won the Middlesex Development League Trophy at Richmond yesterday. After bowling out Wycombe House for 78 (Tom Francis 4 for 13; Shayaan Calcuttawala 3 for 18), our boys cruised past the target 2 down (Will Frais 33 not out; Nathan Laddie 24) and in only 11 overs. The cover pic is of the winning team with coach Jon Francis – Adam Frais was away on cricket tour.

We first won the MDL in 2013 and it was one of the goals set for our Director of Cricket, James Parslow, to revive interest in the Competition and make it an important part of our Player Pathway with Academy and other promising Under 21 players playing alongside established 1s and 2s players. We made the final of the Shield Competition last year and were promoted to the premier Trophy Competition this year. Victory yesterday is testament to the hard work and enthusiasm Pars has put into running the team with considerable help from managers Frais and Francis. Under 15s – Yesterday was County League Finals Day hosted by Sunbury CC. Our boys knocked out a strong host side in their Semi. Batting first we posted 115 in our 20 overs with George Domleo top scoring with a battling 33. Our total looked below par on a good track with a quick outfield. However, once their openers were removed, Sunbury succumbed to some good bowling and fielding and were bowled out for 78.

Indian Gym beat Ealing in the other Semi and proved to be a very strong and well-balanced side. They batted first in the Final with their openers helping themselves to several repeat boundaries. Although we managed to peg their lower order back, we were still set a daunting target of 196 off 20 which included 28 extras.

A fine partnership between Rory Walter (33) and Danny Francis (22) kept us in the game with skipper Linus Wainewright (25) continuing the assault when Danny was out. Around the 10th over we were on 80 plus for 2. Sadly after those batters were dismissed, scoreboard pressure was too much and we were bowled out for 105. A great achievement to make it to the Final – our lads showed great team spirit and support for each other throughout the Semi and the Final.
