Record numbers at 2021 Juniors' Day

Richard Nicoll14 Sep 2021 - 07:04

220 plus enjoy the sunshine, cricket, BBQ and Waterslide

Last Saturday we held our Juniors' Day to mark the end of the another successful outdoor Season for our Juniors and our Club.

The Day's activities were designed to include something for all our age Groups from Under 5 to 17 and also players from our All Stars and Dynamos Programmes. Around 110 Juniors participated in different cricket challenges with the emphasis being on fun, teamwork and participation.

Alex Hill ran an excellent session for our Minis (Reception and Year 1) and All Stars (Under 7 to 9).

Our U7s to 13s (plus players from the Dynamos) competed in a modified Kwik Cricket comps involving 8 teams, including one all girl team which narrowly lost a Super Over to decide the winner of one of the Groups. Team selection and the running of the comp was brilliantly orchestrated by Ian McAleavy and delivered by a team of volunteers.

Older players took part in Cricket Olympics involving throwing, catching, hitting and other challenges invented and organised by Adam Frais and Jon Francis.

Following the cricket came presentation of Juniors’ Awards for 2021 and an excellent BBQ organised by Mary Cracknell and her band of volunteers comprising Richard Cracknell, Barry Carr, Sangita Patel, Kasia and Anita Harris, Suzy Francis, Susie Nicoll and Eileen Sydenham. The burgers, sausages etc. were supplemented by some excellent salads, puddings and cakes donated by many parents. Upwards of 220 were fed during the evening.

Chairman, Stephen Edwards, asked for the following comments to be included in this Article –
“As many members know, our groundsman Joe Naughton was unable to work last week. In his absence, Alex Hill, Jon Francis and Richard Nicoll, with the help also of our former groundsman Brian ‘Oz’ Cohen, took care of everything needed to ensure that the outfield and pitches were ready for Saturday’s fun and games today and for Sunday’s Under 17 Final and the North Midd Scenics match tomorrow. Many thanks to them on behalf of the Club for all their efforts. “

In time honoured fashion the Day ended with the ever-popular Waterslide – see the video linked below.

Shout out to Audio Gold, the amazing audio store located at 308 -310 Park Road for lending us the PA System. This is the second time they have done this and their generosity is much appreciated by the Club.
