Pub and Quiz nights start tonight and tomorrow – don’t miss out

Here is a message from our Social Sec extraordinaire – Nick Friend

“Hope everyone is keeping well and staying safe in these unusual times.
I'm writing with some initiatives that we're looking to run through the weeks/months ahead. The aims are simple: to provide some light relief and to do what we can to help.

Have a read below...

1) Virtual pub night
Every Tuesday evening (starting tonight 31.3.20) from 6.30pm (when training would normally take place), we are going to run a Google Hangouts chat session. Grab a beer, sit by your computer/device, turn your camera on and treat it as an evening in the clubhouse.

It is literally an opportunity for everyone to get together and to make sure that we're all in touch despite all that is happening.

It is very straightforward. Drop a line to me at nichfriend@gmail.com saying you want to join and you will be sent a link by Will Chambers each Tuesday. Click on the link at/from 6.30pm and you'll be in.

2) Quiz night -
Every Wednesday evening (appropriately starting tomorrow 1.4.20) from 8.30pm, we are going to run a quiz -

Same idea as the virtual pub night - it brings people together, it gives us all something to do and we can have a bit of a competitive laugh.

Let me know (email above) if you're keen and he'll send you a Google Hangouts link on the day. All will be explained once we get going. Matt Crackers, and not Nick, is writing the first one, so it might even be accessible.

3) Sharing cricket experiences/challenges -
James Parslow is working on another initiative to involve juniors and seniors alike sharing magic Midd moments, views on best games/players/stories and attempting challenges etc. He will be publishing more info shortly. If you could help with the IT set up for this or have any ideas/suggestions to jazz this up please contact James - jamesparslow217@gmail.com

4) Meals for the NHS -
Will Nicoll and Jess, among others, have launched a service to feed the NHS lifesavers who are faced with canteens closing at 5pm. It has been a massive success with over £460,000 raised in the first week. This initiative was featured by Riz Lateef on BBC TV News London last night.

On that note, all other ideas/initiatives for ways that we, as a club, can help in these tragic times are very welcome.

Best wishes

Nick
