Tons for Nick Friend, George Garrett; National Cup washed out on Sunday.

In a week when the Midd's own Luke Hollman dismissed England Skipper Ben Stokes at Lords, some fine performances but ultimately mixed fortunes for North Midd’s Senior teams.

1s rumoured to have Joe Cracknell and Max Harris available for 1s in the Week 3 clash with Stanmore who are riding high with 2 wins out of 2 on returning to the Prem.

Here are the details -

1st XI vs Ealing (h) - NMCC lose by nine runs
Ealing 211 (48.2) v NMCC 202 (48.5) - Hassan Khan 63, Jem Warner 4-29

A tough loss against a team everyone hates to lose against. Some fantastic individual performances from Jem Warner (4 for 29), Hassan Khan (63), and Dave O’Sullivan (44 not out), but we probably didn't deserve to win.

2nd XI vs Ealing (a) - NMCC win by 36 runs
NMCC 203 (42.1) v Ealing 167-8 (45) - George Garrett 103, Angus Palmer 2-20

Our 2s, strengthened by Nick Brand visiting from New York, won the toss and were soon 20 for 5
But…
In strode George Garrett, looking astonishingly relaxed as he approached the crease… and good golly did he make things look easy. He took advantage of an Ealing side that thought the game was done and allowed their standards to slip as a result. GG was able to strike a deft balance between powerful hitting and intelligent singles. He was ably supported by Will Frais and the two put on a partnership of 83 before Frais departed. But Garrett wasn't done. Fresh off his first senior fifty the week before, he blazed his way to a scintillating ton. No bomb to bring it up but he can be forgiven, he certainly hit plenty during his innings. The lower order stepped up to support him, in particular Lowey, who scored a solid 39 (in a 92-run stand with GG) before being run out by a direct hit from the boundary. I don't think I've ever seen a man go from fuming to finding it hilarious in such a short amount of time. What a gent.
Amazingly, the 2s managed to put together a very respectable 203. Only half the job done, however.
But we needn't have feared. After last week's impressive fielding performance the lads stepped it up another notch and were on it from ball one. Twos turned into ones, ones turned into dots. A couple of early wickets saw us firmly on top. Angus Palmer bowled brilliantly and, as if scoring a ton wasn't enough, GG bowled his nine overs straight, including a couple of maidens and 2 wickets. Player.
The game seemed to be on a knife edge throughout but we kept our cool and maintained our good spirit through the middle 10 overs, which really was the period to put Ealing out of the game. We knew we had them when their own players started yelling out for the batsmen in the middle to hurry up.
Nursey, Tunnicliffe and Lowey were also instrumental in tying Ealing in knots. Nursey bowled his nine straight, and the first boundary from his bowling came in the last over. It was a wonderful display. In the end, Ealing could do nothing but capitulate under what was enormous pressure in the field. It is genuinely exciting to see this standard so early in the season

3rd XI vs Barnes (a) - NMCC win by 125 runs
NMCC 284-6 (45) v Barnes 159 (32.2) - Nick Friend 105, Alfie Duke (34 and 3 for 20), Will Cracknell 49, Nikhil Perincherri 38, Matt Stent 31

5th XI vs Hornsey (a) - NMCC win by nine wickets
Hornsey 4s 133 (34) v NMCC 5s 137 -1 (28) – Alex Thomas 4 for 33, Hamza Ali 3 for 17, Jack Wells 2 for 28; Hugo Thomas 71 not out (49 balls), Breman 38 not out.
