From the 3rd XI Captain

The evenings are getting longer, and the quantity of emails in my inbox from Nick Friend is surging. It can only mean one thing - summer is here and that means another season at The Midd. A full 18-game season to boot - promotion and relegation, nothing ‘Super’ about this version of the MCCCL Third Tier Premier Division.

After some suboptimal pandemic-induced availability issues last year, I’m looking forward to serious competition for places, high quality training and strong teams on Saturdays. Our goal is to enjoy playing as a team of mates while developing future players for the 1s and 2s - and winning a few games along the way.

In September we bade farwell to 3s icon Luke Kenna who returned to Perth with 50 club wickets after a glorious season and a half. We will miss him dearly. 2020 also witnessed some sensational performances from our NMCC academy members - Nico Smith in particular excelling with the new ball. Demand for places will be higher than ever this season though, as new signings compete with club regulars and juniors as well as returning seasoned campaigners - Jack Price a player who I’m especially looking forward to welcoming back to the fold.

I’d like to also thank the awesome team of volunteers who work tirelessly throughout the winter - and each Sunday morning at junior training in the summer - to ensure we are set for the new season. We owe it to them to be available and win games for our club. There’s a title to regain from 2018. We come a long way what a sweet love story.
