A gloriously sunny spring morning welcomed the NMCC 4ths at the st margaretsboobies home ground. Met by a rather intimidating home side in the middle of their military precision warm up drills, the 4ths knew they had a hard job on their hands, after which they left the change rooms and concentrated on the game.
True to form, illustrious leader, "Pistol Oom Papa" Pete lost the toss and the mighty 4ths were put into field, on what turned out to be a great batting pitch (well at least for one of the sides).
After excellent opening spells from Percy and Bootsie, the batsmen started timing the ball rather well. One of the openers-cum-rugby prop bludgeoned an impressive 57 before falling to Pistol's lbw appeal.
Other than some decent bowling from Max, Dykie and a few others, and Marc "Turbo"lanche's sometimes homo-erotic banter, little worried the St M batsmen as they carried on with more swings than Michael Jackson's backyard to post a formidable total 235 for 5 off 45.
Gaurav "G-man" and Pistol opened promisingly, until Pistol got caught off a high straight slog drive, from which a quality but cracked piece of ebay kashmir did not help. Marc and Gaurav went on to build what was starting to look like a good partnership, however after Gaurav, wickets were starting to fall as if the team suspected there might be a free jug of beer waiting at the end of the game.
After a team high score from Dave late in the innings, it wasn't long before the tail was knocked over, posting 142 off 35.2.
Man of the match: Max for a great bowling and batting display.
Runners up: Percy and Dave (and no not you Marc, fielding does not count).
