We lost the toss and perhaps suprisingly, given the appearance of the pitch, our opponent chose to bat. Uz and Noman opened up, Noman taking 2 early wickets with his disguised leg spin. Both beat the bat regularly and we unlucky not to take more. The oppo captain was a fine player, too good for their 4th XI, and he proceeding to build a score with a flurry of straight drives and pulls. The introduction of spin, in the shape of Dykey and Rog Rebello (2 wickets) swung the game our way. Both bowled beautifully with Dykey taking a deserved 13/52/5 including the oppo captain who was well caught on the boundary by Richie Nic for 84. Gabriel Basden, 13, making his senior debut cleaned up the tail taking 2 wickets off 3 overs. Our target was 163. In reply we lost Bishal and Ishan early to leave us at 34/2. Alban (38) and Rich steadied the ship. Noman replaced Alban and hit a quick 28. When Noman fell only 40 were required, enter Atula to hit a quick fire 26. He and Rich (31*) carried their bats to the target with plenty of overs and wickets to spare. 3/4 wins and 1 rained off very pleasing start for the 5s.
