I think the club record we will hold all summer is the one for the team which played in the coldest temperatures. It was freezing!
So I am delighted to say we started with a win: 280-1 versus 274-3.
We won because our bowling was much better than North London's. I think the current professional jargon is to speak of bowling as a unit, our unit was much more likely to bowl wicket-taking balls, and we were also straighter with fewer tricklers along the ground. I got the whole team to share out the bowling and they can all take pride in what they did. The girls who have been with the team in previous years were really good, with Amani and Emilie taking wickets, and Jacqui and Jemima both bowling maidens. The new girls also did well and they can take heart from the performances of the older hands, because it shows that with practice they can really achieve excellence. Alexie took the batting plaudits with some wonderful strikes, and Jess took a good catch.
However, the bit that pleased me the most was that our attitude and supportive nature was spot on, even when everyone was absolutely perishingly cold.
