NLCC 95/7 - 20 overs North Mid 96/0 - 8 overs

The boys took to the field in this cup game having won the toss and opting to bowl first. Jonah C and Ben started with intent and there were some early close calls for the opening batsmen, with Jonah C making the breakthrough in the third over. Euan added two wickets at a key time, including a caught and bowled, to slow NLCC down. Wickets also came for Alex, and Robbie with another caught and bowled. Sachin, Max, Malachy, Oscar and Jonah J also bowling tidily to keep the total down. Two good run outs also contributed to the wickets. It could have been better! The NLCC score was helped along considerably during the first half and longer into their innings by overthrows. The North Mid boys no doubt seeing smashed stumps, glory and congratulations, only to see the ball missing the stumps and skidding through to the short boundaries on either side for fours. Overthrows being a material contributor to the NLCC total, also helped by a few misfields. Pleasingly the boys fixed this in the latter overs and started thinking and working together as a unit to keeps the runs at an acceptable total. NLCC finished up with an obtainable 95 off the 20 overs.

Jonah and Cameron opened and quickly set about the task in hand, taking advantage of the short boundaries. Smashing some 60 runs off the first 6 overs set the tone. Cameron and Jonah retired on 41 and 35 respectively, hitting 11 fours and 1 six between them, accompanied by some intelligent running between the wickets to earn singles. After an explosive last over for Cam and Jonah the game was pretty much over. Sachin and Robbie came in to close the game, Sachin scoring 15, including a couple of fours and, a six to finish in style. North Mid reached the target of 96 comfortably and it was all over in 8 overs. A good win to boost confidence, an early finish, and a relatively short batting section of this match report.

Back to the league and Brondesbury CC on Wednesday!!
