On a very cold and sometimes rainy Saturday morning with the wind sweeping across Regents Park the U11As achieved their first victory of the 2019 season.
The boys batted first and got off to a flying start with Jonah and Cameron putting on 71 for the first week when Jonah was out and then Cameron retired for a top score of 34. During the second half of the innings wickets tumbled – Max was very unlucky to be given Run Out – and some good running from Euan and nice shots from Tom took the total to 139 from 20 overs. A full 50 more than we scored against Stoke Newington in the first match!
The Primrose Hill innings started well for us when Jonah bowled one of the openers in the first over. Primrose Hill then got on top of the bowling to look solid and run down the target of 139. The breakthrough came when Max bowled two excellent overs to take a wicket – clean bowled. He followed this up with excellent fielding to save three boundaries! Euan took another wicket with Robbie taking a good catch and as the match came to its final stages it was clear that either side could win.
What followed was a really tight finish. The good Primrose Hill batter was hitting the ball well but was at the centre of four run outs where he took risky runs to try and keep the strike. Monty, Uday and Jonah J bowled really good overs to keep the game alive and then Jonah C came back to bowl the final over. With 7 needed from the last over Jonah bowled fast and with good line and length with the result that Primrose Hill were three short of the target – A win for North Midd!!!!!
There could be many candidates for Man of the Match and there was a great discussion on who should get it. In the end the MotM for this game was given to Jonah C for his contribution with the bat and for his bowling – especially in the final over when Primrose Hill could still win the match.
