In their third game in 4 days, following one win and one loss, the boys were keen to keep the momentum of the season going. On an evening that didn’t feel much like summer Hampstead won the toss and put North Mid into bat.
Sachin and Cam opened and started steadily to build the innings. With the run rate slowing down the pressure grew on the opening pair leading to Sachin’s wicket falling. Cam then retired after a nasty blow on 23. Jonah came in to make a useful 34 to keep the score ticking over. With wickets in hand the boys tried to increase the run rate but were constrained by strong bowling. Ben fell clean bowled for 4 as Hampstead continued to keep the run rate under control. Robbie, Euan and Tom added 18 runs with North Mid finishing up on 104. A total the boys felt they could defend.
Jonah and Ben opened the bowling but Hampstead scored steadily to take the total to 23 after 4 overs. Despite a neat run out, and Robbie taking a good catch off Ben’s bowling, the total grew. Sachin took a further wicket, but positive stroke play, specifically by the Hampstead number 4 batsman, just kept the run rate going. The North Mid bowlers struggled to take wickets or contain the Hampstead batsmen. Hampstead reached the target after 13 and a half overs.
An early finish and a disappointing result, but finding a positive all the boys as a team kept working and encouraging each other to the end, and even in the last over were still working hard to prevent runs and take an extra wicket.
Onto the last remaining game of the season next week.
