The last game of the season for the U11A team saw a strong bowling performance followed by a batting collapse.
Having lost the toss and put into the field the U11A boys bowled and fielded well in the final match of the season against a strong Brondesbury line up with two short boundaries and a fast outfield. Jonah bowled the opener with an in swinger and after 10 overs Brondesbury were struggling to score but had wickets in hand. As the batters started to hit out so the runs followed with a final total of 130 to chase. Jonah finished with 3 wickets but the pick of the bowlers was Tom who finished with an impressive 1 for 8 from 4 overs.
After 10 overs chasing the total North Midd were on 72 but had lost 6 wickets. Ben batted well for his 23 but the top 6 all contributed to their own demise and the game was gone. We finished on 84 adding only 12 in 9 overs as the remaining batters struggled to score and got pinned down.
Slight shame to finish a really positive season with a loss but that should not spoil a good season where victories against Stoke Newington, Primrose Hill and Brondesbury show the progress that the boys have made. For me the highlight of the season must be the winning cup semi final at Stoke Newington that was won in the final over on a beautiful evening on Hackney Marshes.
The drama of the final went against us - again in the final over, but when we consider the loss of two matches to the weather and confusion of dates we would have finished second in the league behind an excellent Hampstead team.
Huge thanks to all who have played, watched as supporters or followed the games on WhatsApp. Special thanks to Steve, Richard and Dan for scoring and to Peter for umpiring. Training is still on for two more Sundays and I hope to see the boys there.
