North Midd U11 Girls played their first match of the season against Highgate at North Midd on lovely Tuesday evening at Park Road - all of the North Midd team were making their U11 debuts and Breck and Emily were also playing their first match for the club
The inexperienced North Midd team batted first: Emily and Sasha got the team off to a steady start scoring 11 from their 4 overs; Leela and Anjali upped the scoring rate with 25 runs; Breck and Martha collected 19 runs in the middle of the innings; and Cecily and Leila closed the innings with 11 runs. There were some lovely shots from all the batters including four well struck boundaries. The final total of 66 runs might have been greater were it not for the loss of 6 wickets (-5 runs per wicket = -30 runs), but overall, this was a very solid first bat of the season against some excellent bowling and fielding from the Highgate players.
The Highgate innings saw a steady accumulation of runs and some strong hitting combined with clever running towards the end of the innings which meant that visitors ended up on 143 runs. There was however some excellent cricket played by the North Midd bowlers and fielders that should be recognised: bowling was generally of a good line, fielders chased hard and threw harder (note: remind fielders to back up next match...), and the team rotated on an off the field to allow everyone game time while remaining positive and supportive of each other.
A good match, played in good spirit, with lots of good cricket - well done everyone!
