Pretty nerve-wracking this morning - woke up early unscheduled!

England played their first match in the Under 19 World Cup in the sun at Queenstown, South Island, NZ last night.

On a flat track both Luke and Ethan snared wickets in England’s 8 wicket win over Namibia. Luke bowled with controlled loop and managed some turn on a good batting deck. He was top wicket taker with 3 for 41 off his 10 overs and also took a catch. Click the link to watch his between innings interview.

Ethan opened the bowling and bowled at the death. His variations tied down the Namibian batsmen taking 1 for 26 off 7 overs. He was unlucky not to take more wickets with a relatively easy skied catch being dropped.

Namibia elected to bat after winning the toss and scored 196 for 9 off their 50 overs. England easily knocked these off for 2 down in the 25th over.

Next match is v Bangladesh starting 9.30 pm London time on Wednesday 17 January. Bangladesh have already beaten both Namibia and Canad easily so this match will almost certainly decide who wins Group C. The winners are likely to play Australia in the Quarter Final; the losers the favourites India. Very important that England win - India beat Australia by nearly 100 runs over the weekend!.
