From the 4th XI Captain
It’s not without some trepidation that I take on the captaincy of the Mighty Fours. Thanks to the amazing work of my predecessor, Pistol, and Boots before him, the Fours have become the strongest 4th XI in Middlesex league cricket. But more than that, we have been a team that plays positive, aggressive, winning cricket while maintaining a great spirit.
Even though last season saw the Fours’ amazing run of promotions and/or titles come to an end, we still finished third in a strong league where every other side we played against was a third eleven. With the introduction of the 45-over format, this year’s rule changes should help us and our brand of one-point-is-not-an-option cricket. I’m particularly looking forward to seeing how our latest crop of colts adapts to senior cricket and how the slightly older ones mature into key members of the team alongside the stalwarts who have been at the forefront of the Fours’ success for so long.
If we maintain our ability to win games while playing in the right manner, helping our Colts into senior cricket and having great fun along the way – as well as making sure that Pistol has a fitting send off in what looks to be his last season for the Midd before returning Down Under – it will be another brilliant season. May the Fours be with you.
