Cup final Match Report

After a couple of fantastic wins for the 11a over Stoke Newington and the dramatic Friday evening semi-final the boys arrived in a confident mood for the cup final.
We won the toss and elected to bowl trying to emulate the early wickets of the previous game.
Our first 9 overs shared between Tom, Jonah, Sachin and Ben going for a measly 25. During which we claimed 2 wickets one of which a very tidy run out involving Ben attacking the bowl from Cover.
Eventually the Brondsbury batsman then took the bull by the horns and accelerated. Their 2nd wicket partnership worth 60. Our fielding continued to impress but the short boundaries meant that Brondsbury were never going to be held down forever. We saw some fantastic fielding from Jonah J and a super run out by Euan. Real quick thinking!
Brondsbury finally closed their innings on 117 for 4.
The boys came off the field deflated but quickly focused on chasing down the total.
Cameron and Sachin took the field, both boys feeling confident after recent good scores.
Cameron fell early to a straight ball meaning Sachin was joined by Jonah. Unfortunately Jonah pulled up whilst running a single and could not continue. Ben joined Jonah and really started to get the innings going taking advantage of the short boundary down the hill.
Brondsbury then unleashed their spinners and snared Ben caught behind bringing to an end a nice knock.
Euan fell quickly run out after a mix up bringing Tom Richards and Robbie together . Tom as usual getting hold of a few booming shots through midwicket before eventually falling for 16 after missing a similar shot. Robbie carried on joined by Malachy who weighed in with a couple of boundaries eventually stumped. Jonah J joined Robbie and smashed a great boundary through cover to bring up the biggest smile of the innings. Robbie fell for 16 in the final over and the Midd fell 4 short after a short cameo from oscar.
The boys learnt really important lessons tonight... it doesn't always go your way; even when you are going so well, in most games you re going to need to weather periods where the opposition get on top. Its how you dig yourself out of those darker moments when the game feels flat that needs real character. I was very pleased with our bowling and i thought we were super sharp in the field. And we came up 4 short.... its was almost another great run chase. Well done to Brondsbury, they played well and both teams played in the right spirit.

My favourite moments.... A super tidy run out (ben/cam); jonah J s reaction to his boundary through cover and Euan's quick thinking claiming another run out.

We go again tomorrow against Hampstead.

Go the Midd!
