12. Volunteering/Getting Involved

We are not a “drop and run” commercial operation. We rely on as many parents/carers as possible to help run our Club. North Midd works hard to create a supportive and positive environment so that you will enjoy your volunteering.

Please do not be shy about coming forward. Unless parents help, we will struggle to put out teams and run matches properly and safely. You can help in various ways at matches e.g. with scoring, umpiring, taking the register, being on first aid duty, putting out and taking in stumps, boundary markers and other Club equipment. Previous cricket experience is not required.

At Practice sessions and during matches, our coaches always welcome assistance e.g. to help run drills/warmups, take the attendance register, scoring, put the kit away at the end. Age groups may also have other roles such as Match reporter, photographer, transport co-ordinator, friendly Fixtures Secretary etc. We are now required to provide both an umpire and a scorer for each match – if you are happy undertaking one of these roles, please let your age group manager know. Training courses are sometimes available.

If you would like to qualify as a lead or support coach, Middlesex Cricket run courses regularly through the winter and less frequently in the Summer. We try to notify parents of these but if you need more information, please contact nmmc.colts@gmail.com.

Many of our older Juniors find that a coaching qualification is useful for their personal statement/UCAS Form/Duke of Edinburgh Award/CV. Courses are normally open to Juniors from 16 years. We offer bursaries to those committing to continued coaching at the club.

Volunteers at the Club aged 16 plus who are in regular contact with Juniors, must have a DBS check. “Regular contact” is means helping on more than 3 separate occasions. Obtaining a DBS check is a straightforward process which can be done on-line. Richard Nicoll (nmcc.colts@gmail.com) or Mary Cracknell (Mary.Duffy@guidedogs.org.uk) can arrange for an application form to be emailed to you and for your required ID to be verified.
